    About the Customer

    Rolls-Royce

    Focus Area

Connecting with a diverse cohort of early careers candidates through live events and nurture journeys.

    Programme

The Power Series; a program of 6 virtual events aimed at engaging candidates who may have considered a career with Rolls-Royce unattainable.

    Outcome

More than doubled offers made to non-white candidates, with a substantial rise in both applications and offers to women and non-white candidates.

    6

    1,605

    The Challenge

Enable Rolls-Royce to engage with more diverse candidates and change perception of the accessibility of a career with them.

The overriding purpose behind The Power Series was to engage with a more diverse audience, one that we were told felt a career with Rolls-Royce was out of reach, or not a realistic option. At the same time, Rolls-Royce still needed to appeal to graduates and students who were actively seeking career opportunities with the company. Landing this balance was central to our approach.

Renowned as ‘pioneers of power’, Rolls-Royce has become synonymous with the word ‘power’, but we aimed to turn the meaning on its head with The Power Series.

    Objectives

Key objectives of The Power Series
    Engage a more diverse audience

The overriding purpose behind The Power Series was to engage with a more diverse audience, one that we were told felt a career with Rolls-Royce was out of reach, or not a realistic option.

    Appeal to existing talent

At the same time, Rolls-Royce still needed to appeal to graduates and students who were actively seeking career opportunities with the company.

    Reframe ‘power’

Renowned as ‘pioneers of power’, Rolls-Royce has become synonymous with the word ‘power’, but we aimed to turn the meaning on its head with The Power Series.

    Reflect brand values

The traits were also chosen to reflect the Rolls-Royce brand values, i.e., be bold, be agile, be collaborative.

    Our Solution

Rolls-Royce used Meet & Engage, Unseen’s candidate experience and onboarding platform, to deliver The Power Series; a program of 6 virtual events aimed at engaging candidates who may have considered a career with Rolls-Royce unattainable. Post-event, attendees were to be invited to access a bespoke nurture track, to support them through their entire application journey.

    Live Virtual Events

The Meet & Engage technology used by Rolls-Royce includes:

    • Pre- and post-event automated email comms and registration
    • Branded pre- and post-event lobby areas
    • Content sharing via live stream, pre-recorded video, polls, slides
    • Fully moderated Q&A
    • NPS candidate experience data

    Automated Nurture Journey

    • Automated candidate journey in a personalized social-style interface
    • Content shared by wall posts, videos and articles
    • Email nudges to see fresh content
    • User candidate experience pulse checks

    Launch

The Power Series launched in October 2021 with a brave decision to lead with ‘Courage’ – the event with a focus on neurodiversity. Although slightly smaller in number, the audience were so appreciative and engaged by the opportunity, hearing directly from interns, graduates and senior leaders about how they have adapted, been successful, and demonstrated to Rolls- Royce why neurodiverse people are so important to continued innovation and growth.

Student feedback was very positive: “I found the networking and support for each other amazing”. We ran a Power Series event every three weeks, with the titles Belief, Wisdom, Collaboration, Imagination and Curiosity. Each event saw more attendees than the previous, as awareness and interest grew. Our nurture tracks also grew in numbers, particularly amongst the apprentice / school leaver audience.

    Results

    Feedback

Across all events, there were 1,475 attendees and engaged with 1,605 students. The average NPS score from those attending the events was 73% (world class!) and a third of attendees (Rolls-Royce’s benchmark) engaged with the nurture journeys. The nurture journeys featured smiley face feedback and Sukhy, a candidate experience bot.

‘Very insightful conversations on a variety of topics which is particularly important during the pandemic and remote working. Spot on!’

‘I am enjoying this series, it is so inspiring.’

‘Both the speakers answered not only my own, but the whole audience’s questions with great depth and breadth. The set up was engaging and the people monitoring the chat were very welcoming.’

‘This is a great platform for the new generation to contribute to the change transmission.’

    Conclusion

The Power Series built on work carried out within assessment to address and remove barriers to entry, particularly the misconception that Rolls- Royce are only interested in certain demographics and backgrounds. This included removing degree classifications, changing from competency to behavioural assessment where possible, and removing any online testing which was potentially disadvantaging students from minority ethnic backgrounds, to provide equal opportunities at each stage.

The Power Series helped develop focus on behaviours and values that are needed to lead Rolls-Royce into the future, and reinforced the desire to attract students from diverse backgrounds, which is one of their top priorities globally. Rolls-Royce have a hiring strategy centred around three focus areas: Outreach, Access, and Selection, underpinned by the ‘attract’ pillar from the group D&I strategy. The Power Series, as part of this, made sure they could reach, attract and select from the widest and deepest diverse talent pools.

As with many other organisations, 2020-21 gave Rolls-Royce the opportunity to rethink, refresh, and reinvent how they attract and recruit diverse early careers talent, but mainly it accelerated plans to take student attraction virtual. Shifting to social media platforms, online events and creating useful digital content has helped Rolls-Royce to reach students they haven’t been able to engage with before. All of this has meant they are leading the way with digital attraction and assessment, transforming the traditional employer brand relationship.

year Seenit was introduced by Amazon’s Employer Brand team

    The Challenge

Amazon needed to hire at scale while competing with some of the world’s most recognised technology employers. At the same time, the business needed a more authentic way to showcase what it is really like to work at Amazon.

Traditional job descriptions alone weren’t enough to explain complex roles or bring the organisation’s culture to life. To attract the next generation of candidates, Amazon needed to amplify employee voices and show genuine experiences from inside the company.

The Employer Brand team also needed a way to create this content efficiently and consistently across a large global organisation.

    Objectives

    Key objectives of the brief
    Support high-volume hiring

Help Amazon attract talent at scale while competing with leading technology companies.

    Build brand trust

Amplify employee voices to showcase authentic culture and values.

    Humanise complex roles

Make specialist roles easier to understand and more appealing to potential candidates.

    Create scalable content

Enable teams to generate authentic employee stories quickly and consistently.

    Our Solution

Seenit was introduced by Amazon’s Employer Brand team in the Retail division in 2018. The platform enables Amazon employees to capture and share video content that brings their experiences to life.

By gathering stories directly from employees, Amazon can create authentic employer brand content that showcases career opportunities, culture and day-to-day experiences across the organisation.

The content can then be used across the candidate journey, including careers pages, social media and recruitment campaigns.

    Results

Over time, Amazon has used Seenit to build a large library of employee-generated video content that supports both employer branding and recruitment campaigns.

Employee storytelling has helped Amazon increase engagement with employer brand content while giving candidates a clearer, more human view of what it is like to work at the organisation.

    Psychometric Spotlight: St James’s Place

Welcome to our Psychometric Spotlight video with Peter Clarke, Head of Learning Performance and Innovation at St James’s Place.
Here you’ll discover how St James’s Place worked with Unseen and used the Evolve Assess platform with their Leadership Blueprint Framework to create accessible tools that have been used by the whole organisation.

    Project Summary

The Unseen team built the digital assessment platform underpinning the St. James’s Place (SJP) Leadership Blueprint self-assessment. This transformed SJP’s previously facilitator-led, resource-intensive leadership sessions into a scalable, online tool accessible across the entire FTSE 100 organisation.

Unseen also developed the Team Climate assessment, collaborating closely with the SJP team to refine ideas, challenge assumptions, propose innovations, and enabling any team to measure unity, rhythm, and spirit without requiring a facilitator. Unseen ensured the tool was inclusive and relevant to all roles and levels, not limited to senior leadership.

“What the [Unseen] guys did really, really well is that high touch, high design approach something that looked and felt really effective for us.”

    Peter Clarke
Head of Learning Performance and Innovation at St. James’s Place

    Key Outcomes & Results

The Evolve Assess platform delivered both high-touch design and robust technical functionality, creating a tool that felt modern, intuitive, and high-quality, an element repeatedly praised by St. James’s Place.

Successful launch of the St. James’s Place Leadership Blueprint across the business provided employees with clear insight into their current leadership behaviour and areas for stretch or development, with rapid adoption across the whole breadth and depth of the organisation, including very senior leaders.

This resulted in a markedly improved employee experience: visually polished, intuitive, engaging, and reflective of SJP’s modern learning strategy.

The Team Climate assessment now enables teams to self-diagnose and drive their own development, unlocking organisational reach that was previously impossible, and the platform now supports next-phase evolution.

Creating a bespoke development centre for Sir Robert McAlpine

Sir Robert McAlpine, one of the UK’s leading construction firms, partnered with Unseen’s assessment specialists, Sten10, to identify and select the first cohort of participants for their Future Leaders Programme, delivered in association with Cranfield University.

    About the Customer

    Organisation

    Sir Robert McAlpine

    Industry

    Construction & civil engineering

    Use Case

Development centre for identification and selection of participants for their Future Leaders Programme

    Improving outcomes

Through the design of realistic, relevant, and engaging exercises

    Background

Sir Robert McAlpine (SRM) needed a fair and objective process to select participants for the first cohort of their Future Leaders Programme.

    The Challenge

    Ensuring fairness:

The process had to be inclusive, avoiding any bias towards construction-specific experience.

    Aligning with real demands:

Selected individuals needed the resilience, leadership ability and commitment to make the most of the challenging programme at Cranfield and succeed in future senior roles.

    Engaging busy professionals:

The assessment process had to be rigorous without being overwhelming. It needed to be engaging enough to motivate high-potential candidates to apply and participate fully.

    The Solution

Sten10 designed a tailored Development Centre (DC) based on SRM’s leadership competency framework, enhanced with input from Cranfield University. The exercises, built around a fictional failing project, were designed to measure behaviours such as problem-solving, collaboration, and resilience. Participants took part in group tasks, presentations and interviews, with clear assessment criteria and trained observers to ensure consistency and fairness.

    Design

Designing realistic, relevant, and engaging exercises

    Comms

Creating communication materials and a smooth application process

    Training

Training assessors to minimise bias and focus on objective behavioural evidence

    Logistics

Managing the logistics of running multiple, seamless development centres

    Integration

Facilitating fair integration sessions for selection of final candidates

“A great experience, Sten10 understood our need and put forward practical solutions in a quick timeframe.”

    The Impact

    Quality

The Development Centre enabled SRM to identify individuals with genuine leadership potential, not just those who were confident or well-known internally. Cranfield University reported the SRM participants were particularly well-suited and well-prepared for the programme. All participants remained engaged and committed throughout the programme; underlining the effectiveness of the selection process.

    Efficiency

The process was designed and delivered with precision. A clear assessment matrix, structured integration sessions, and observer training ensured reliable, evidence-based decision-making. Sten10’s attention to logistics meant the development centres ran smoothly and without disruption. SRM benefitted from a streamlined selection process that saved time while maintaining high standards.

    Engagement

Candidates were motivated by the opportunity and felt supported throughout, thanks to clear application materials and a welcoming information pack. Even those not selected for the programme received personalised feedback, reinforcing SRM’s commitment to development.

“I believe the process that Sten10 ran was successful in preparing the applicants, but also in selecting the right applicants.”

    Psychometric Spotlight: Real World Group

Welcome to our Psychometric Spotlight video with Juliette Alban-Metcalfe, the Chief Executive of Real World Group. Here you’ll discover how Real Wold Group created their self-assessment, the Real World Leader, using Unseen’s psychometric testing platform, Evolve Assess.

    Project Summary

Unseen partnered with Real World Group (RWG) to develop and validate the Real World Leader assessment, a senior-level leadership psychometric. RWG also brought in Unseen’s specialist experts in ipsative psychometric design, Sten10, to help convert years of engaging-leadership research into a robust self-assessment tool suitable for selection and coaching.

Unseen supported question design, tool structure, measurement approach, and psychometric robustness, assisting through an iterative, multi-year research and validation process involving large-scale data collection, analysis, and re-analysis, all ensuring the assessment:

    • accurately measured leadership behaviour rather than personality
    • worked effectively for senior and executive-level selection and development
    • met evidence-based and scientific standards for leadership assessment

“They [Unseen] are very much experts in helping to create ipsative psychometric tools.”

    Key Outcomes & Results

The Evolve Assess platform allowed for a successful launch of The Real World Leader, now used by organisations across industries for executive selection and leadership coaching. The tool is recognised as distinctive in the market for its focus on behavioural leadership indicators, not personality traits. There was a strong practitioner reception — especially among coaches — who value the tool’s ability to create richer development conversations than personality-based psychometrics.

Unseen also improved Real World Group’s ability to:
    • Select the right leaders at senior/executive levels.
    • Develop leaders using a scientifically grounded, behaviour-based framework.
    • Increase diversity and inclusion by levelling the playing field, avoiding outdated criteria, and assessing behaviours proven to support inclusive leadership.

Demand has since grown for additional versions (middle-manager, junior-manager, and non-executive versions), showing clear market validation and client confidence in the tool.

    1

bespoke tool built around NatWest’s framework, not retrofitted to software

    360°

capability view, from colleague development to bank-level insight

governance-ready approach to data privacy and security requirements

    The Challenge

NatWest had recently launched a new skills and behaviour framework and wanted to embed it across the bank in a way that felt practical for colleagues and valuable for leaders.

The team had already built an internal prototype tool. It was basic, but its early success proved there was real appetite for a more polished experience. To scale adoption and unlock meaningful insight, NatWest needed an external partner that could design and build something bespoke to their framework, with a strong focus on user experience.

As a highly regulated organisation, data privacy and security were critical. Any supplier would need to meet stringent governance and supply chain requirements.

    Objectives

    Key objectives of the brief
    Embed the framework

Give colleagues something tangible to guide development and build consistent capability language.

    Make it engaging

The solution needed a strong focus on an engaging and innovative user experience.

    Unlock insight

Enable flexible analysis and reporting to inform development activity at an aggregate level. Create a clear view of technical capability across the bank.

    Meet governance standards

Ensure data privacy, security and supplier assurance requirements were fully satisfied.

    Our Solution

NatWest partnered with Evolve Assess to build a simple, attractively designed assessment experience tailored to their frameworks, rather than adopting an off-the-shelf product and retrofitting the framework to match.

Evolve worked closely with NatWest’s stakeholders, taking an open and collaborative approach to shaping the solution and suggesting alternative routes where needed to meet bespoke requirements.

Throughout delivery, Evolve supported NatWest’s governance and supply chain processes, providing the assessments, certificates and evidence required to meet strict data privacy and security standards.

    Results

The platform helped NatWest embed skills and behaviour frameworks across the bank, giving colleagues a practical tool to support development and enabling leaders to access stronger capability insight.

The analysis centre in particular became a standout outcome, giving NatWest the ability to shape and cut skills data in the ways the business needed, and to use those insights to inform development activities at an organisational level.

    Notable outcomes
    Adoption

Framework embedded via a tangible, colleague-friendly experience.

    Insight

Aggregate capability data available to inform bank-wide development planning.

    Flexibility

Analysis centre enabled data to be shaped and interrogated in multiple ways.

    Looking Ahead

Following the success of the initial project and the strength of the working relationship, NatWest has since gone on to develop several additional tools with Evolve in this space.

“Our dedicated relationship manager has been great, really responsive, just excellent at anticipating our needs.”

Lucy Downs, Behavioural Science Manager, NatWest

“If you are looking to build an engaging online assessment, I really recommend Evolve Assess. From design to delivery, they’ve been proactive, understood the business and the requirements, and helped build a really innovative solution going forward.”

How Royal Mail Transformed Onboarding to Improve Engagement and Cut Attrition

How Royal Mail Transformed Onboarding to Improve Engagement and Cut Attrition

The role of a postie is physically demanding, requiring individuals to walk up to ten miles a day, five days a week, in varying weather conditions while carrying heavy loads. Early starts, shift work, and the occasional encounter with unfriendly dogs further contribute to the challenges of the job.

Despite this, posties are seen as vital members of the community — familiar faces deeply rooted in the neighbourhoods they serve.

Royal Mail Group, one of the UK’s largest employers, faced a pressing operational challenge: high drop-out and early attrition rates among newly hired postal workers. While applicant numbers were strong, many new hires didn’t fully grasp the realities of the role, leading to drop-outs between offer acceptance and Day 1.

    The Challenges

    • High renege rates (candidates accepting offers but not showing up)
    • Significant early attrition within the first 30 days
    • Inconsistent pre-start communication and engagement
    • Lack of a structured, scalable onboarding process
    • A requirement to recruit 250–300 new posties every week

    The Aims

    • Delivering a positive, engaging candidate experience
    • Reinforcing the realities of the role early
    • Reducing renege and attrition rates

Meet & Engage’s Tailored Onboarding Experience

To address these challenges, Royal Mail partnered with Meet & Engage, using their Timeline onboarding platform – a personalised, social-style digital portal designed to drive candidate engagement.

    Personalised Candidate Journeys
Candidates who accepted offers were invited to register via a link in their offer email, unlocking a tailored onboarding journey from acceptance through to Day 1.

Engaging Content in a Social Format
Instead of static documents, candidates received social-style posts, videos, articles, and interactive content designed to reflect the real realities of the role.

    Automated Alerts and Nudges
Email and SMS prompts reminded candidates to engage, with intelligent triggers nudging those who missed content back into the experience.

    Calibrated Content Flow
Content was intentionally limited to around 15 posts across a short window, preventing overload while ensuring clarity.

    Mobile-First Design
With many candidates accessing the platform via mobile, the experience was optimised for anytime, anywhere engagement.

The Results: Strong Engagement and Reduced Attrition

    • Renege rates dropped from 35% to 12%
    • Early attrition halved from 32% to 16%
    • 96% candidate satisfaction among registered users
    17,800 Candidates invited to onboard
    49% Registration rate

96% Felt more prepared for the role
    62% Accessed via mobile

    A Scalable, Engaging Onboarding Model

Royal Mail’s collaboration with Meet & Engage demonstrates how digital, personalised onboarding can transform candidate experience at scale.

By combining engaging content, thoughtful timing, and mobile-first access, the initiative helped new postal workers feel prepared, valued, and far more likely to stay.

Having experienced challenges with a previous platform, Kier implemented TopScore to streamline assessment delivery, reduce administration, improve assessor engagement and deliver a more consistent candidate experience.

Within weeks, TopScore became a key part of Kier’s recruitment strategy, supporting 31 assessment centres and the assessment of more than 250 graduates and 100 apprentices.

    The Challenge

Kier’s Emerging Talent team needed to manage growing candidate volumes while maintaining compliance, consistency and a positive candidate experience.

Their previous platform created several challenges, including:

    1. Time-consuming campaign setup and administration
    1. Complex assessor training requirements
    1. Manual reporting processes
    1. Limited flexibility during live assessment events
    1. Inconsistent user experience for recruiters and assessors
  • With recruitment delivered through a mix of virtual (70%) and face-to-face (30%) assessment centres, Kier required a solution that could simplify operations while supporting scale.

    Our Solution

Kier implemented TopScore across its graduate recruitment programme before expanding into apprenticeship hiring and Youth Futures Foundation initiatives.

TopScore provided a single platform for assessment delivery, assessor scoring, candidate management and reporting across both virtual and in-person events.

Its intuitive interface significantly reduced assessor onboarding requirements, while the ability to instantly update exercise content, assessor allocations and event structures provided greater flexibility and control.

The user interface resonated with us immediately. It was an absolute game changer.

    Results

The Kier Group team grew in confidence around using an assessment platform thanks to the delivery of the project in full.

Feedback from the Kier team has been excellent, and all have expressed how intuitive and user friendly the TopScore interface is.

More importantly, Kier Group’s key business stakeholders have been extremely impressed, and comments such as ‘Can I use this for all of my interviews?’ and ‘Am I doing something wrong, it seems too easy?’ are a testament to the work that [the team] has dedicated to making the platform as simple and effective as possible.

Driving Social Impact Through Evidence-Based Hiring

Alongside improving the efficiency and scalability of its recruitment process, Kier is using TopScore to support its wider commitment to social mobility and youth employment.

As part of the Youth Futures Foundation Employer Trials Programme, Kier is partnering with the UK’s national What Works Centre for youth employment to test recruitment strategies that can improve outcomes for young people facing barriers to employment.

Using TopScore, Kier is trialling the impact of structured interviews within its apprenticeship recruitment process, assessing how a more consistent and evidence-based approach can improve fairness, strengthen compliance and reduce potential barriers to employment.

The initiative supports Youth Futures Foundation’s mission to build robust evidence on what works in youth recruitment and retention, helping employers unlock the potential of marginalised young people while futureproofing their workforce.

By participating in the programme, Kier is not only improving its own hiring practices but also contributing to industry-wide research that could help shape more inclusive recruitment approaches across the UK.

    Significant Time Savings

TopScore dramatically reduced administrative effort, from campaign setup and assessor management to reporting and candidate evaluation.

Assessor training was simplified from webinars and detailed guidance documents to a straightforward self-service experience, delivering value within weeks of implementation.

    Improved Assessor Experience

The platform’s clear structure and scoring process enabled assessors to focus on candidate evaluation rather than technology.

100% of assessors reported a significant improvement compared with the previous platform.

    Reduced Risk and Improved Compliance

By centralising assessment delivery, scoring and reporting, TopScore helped Kier standardise processes, reduce manual administration and improve confidence in hiring decisions.

    Cost and Sustainability Benefits

The move to a largely virtual, fully paperless assessment process reduced administrative costs, labour requirements and operational overheads while supporting Kier’s sustainability goals.

    Lasting Impact

What started as a graduate recruitment solution has become a cornerstone of Kier’s emerging talent strategy.

Graduate recruitment is now fully supported through TopScore, apprenticeship programmes have expanded onto the platform, and Kier plans to assess all graduates, placements and early-career talent through TopScore by FY27.

By combining scalability, efficiency and an outstanding user experience, TopScore has enabled Kier to confidently grow and future-proof its emerging talent recruitment programme.

Customer service wise, I cannot find fault at all. The team is so responsive.
